The Irish Hospice Foundation aims to develop research in hospice/palliative care and bereavement in Ireland.

From 2010 onwards, IHF research funding will be channelled into the All-Ireland Institute for Palliative Care, in order to increase research capacity and activity in this area.

Research funding initiatives

We are committed to a number of ongoing research funding initiatives which include partnerships with national stakeholders. Current initiatives include:

Commissioned research

The Foundation also commissions research. Examples of research commissioned with statutory partners include:

  • A national study on the palliative care needs of children, undertaken as a joint project with the Department of Health & Children. The final report of this project was published in September 2005.
  • A study study, End-of-Life Care for Older People in Acute and Long-Stay Care Settings in Ireland, undertaken by our Hospice Friendly Hospitals programme in partnership with the National Council on Ageing and Older People .

To encourage the dissemination of research in the areas mentioned above, we have developed a database of existing Irish research.
